What does D/s mean?

D/s stands for Dominance and submission: a relationship or dynamic in which people agree to an exchange of power, where one takes the Dominant role, and the other takes the submissive role.

The slash separates the two roles. A D/s dynamic can be part of a scene, part of a relationship, or a whole way of living. It can range from light and playful to deeply structured. What makes it healthy is that the arrangement is chosen, negotiated, and can be revisited.
